Welcome to the Cheltenham Mini and Juniors !
Come and join us ! New Players welcome at any time.
We are a successful club based at Newlands Park on the outskirts of Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham (directions). Throughout the season (September - April), we offer opportunities for children (aged 5-17) to get involved in this great sport. We welcome all abilities - from newcomer to experienced player. Tag rugby is played by the under 6, under 7 and under 8 groups, with older groups playing the contact game in accordance with RFU guidelines.
Currently there are around 300 players registered with us and all squads are managed by qualified coaches. All coaches and volunteers are CRB checked. We adhere closely to the RFU guidelines to ensure that all our children enjoy safe and secure playing conditions.
The season is a mixture of structured training, fixtures (see mini fixtures
and junior fixtures) against local sides and entry into festivals and tournaments. When at home, sessions start on Sunday mornings at 10.00am and finish by around midday - food, refreshments and a licensed bar are available.
Last season was another very enjoyable and successful campaign with 4 age groups finishing as the Gloucestershire County Cup Champions !
Of course, to be this successful demands effort … !!
Cheltenham Tigers under 17s squad are looking to create strength in depth in their squad (across all positions) in preparation for this seasons National UNDER 17'S competition and to create a squad for next seasons regional colts competition. If you were under 17 years of age on september 1st 2011 you qualify to trial for this team. We play on Sunday mornings and train on Tuesday evenings. Whatever your position or experience why not come along for trials in March. Initially you'll need to send an e-mail to moc.tenretnitb|tyrag#moc.tenretnitb|tyrag to express your interest. You will then be invited to group trials to be held at the Prince Of Wales stadium.
Come and join the fun and be part of one of Gloucestershires most successful (county cup finalists for 5 consecutive seasons) Rugby Union teams…
Gary Thomas……Squad Manager
Cheltenham Tigers Under 12s retained their crown as County Champions after a long, hard day in the finals at Longlevens. This talented age group has now won this title for the last 4 seasons, and as the opposition gets bigger and tougher each year their achievement is testament to the hard work and commitment of a super bunch of young lads. Drawn against a combative Cirencester side in the semi-finals, Cheltenham had to dig deep to win through by a single try, Redpath breaking through a packed and well-marshalled defence to take the team forward into the final. The young Tigers had to play a strong Dursley team in a repeat of last seasons Land Rover finals and reversed that disappointment largely due to a fantastic first half in which they played some breathtaking rugby, as good as you will see anywhere at this age. The Tigers came bursting out of the blocks and had the game all but won by half time. A strong and hugely dynamic forward display gave the young Tigers excellent field position, and tries by Redpath, Marden and Dawson put the Tigers 3 up at the break. In the second half another Redpath try sealed the performance proving the point that forwards win games and backs decide by how much. This age group goes forward into Junior Rugby looking forward to a bright future.
This fourth County crown is their second consecutive finals where they have beaten all comers and gone through the whole tournament without conceding a single try. A fantastic effort, and great performance! Well done lads!
