PANTHERS AT THE COUNTY CUP by Hettie Harris

Due to many non-players and some injuries in the A’s & B’s, the B team had some new faces and was not our regular B team squad. However, it didn’t stop the team quickly gelling as a squad and playing some phenomenal rugby. New faces this year Tom & Sam, both played outstandingly, Tom showing he is fast, quick-thinking and can anticipate what is about to happen, Sam showing bravery and strength, driving the ball forward, gaining ground well, scoring our only try of the day - two players to look out for in the future.

Stow A 17 Cheltenham 0
Our opening match was against Stow and it was an action match from the very beginning. Our boys rose to the challenge and fought to the very end - a thoroughly exciting match to watch.

Chosen Hill 26 Cheltenham 0
Our second match was against the tough Chosen Hill side. We had a good start, with a great attacking scrum in the first 5mins, which we failed to convert. We then missed several tackles and conceded 3 tries in the first half. The boys raised their game in the second half, with some fantastic defense and the tacking improved and we only narrowly lost the second half.

Cheltenham 7 Cinderford 0
This was a hard fought match and the teams were reasonably evenly matched. The boys were gritty and determined, Sam scoring the try in the dying seconds, after a protracted & hard fought ruck. This was converted. (by whom, I’m not quite sure, sorry!)

QUARTER FINAL
Dursley 21 Cheltenham 0
This was the most exciting game of the day, the boys playing their best and despite being one man down, fought right through to the end. There really was some phenomenal rugby here and again Tom was outstanding and Sam played his heart out. Both Ross and Rob showed promise rucking & mauling too. There were some awesome tackles in this match from several of the players.

In all 4 great matches and the scores do not reflect how much effort the boys put in on the day. A great day’s rugby, which the boy’s can be really proud of. Fantastic!
