Return To Under 7's Squad

Sunday 14th February 2010
Cheltenham V Marlborough & Avonvale
Away

Marlborough V Cheltenham (4 – 5)
Following last weeks defeat, the depleted squad due to half term commitments regrouped upon a wind swept, desolate common of Marlborough. Warmed by the friendly welcome of Marlborough, the under 7’s lifted their heads to face the sloping field and challenge ahead. Armed with reviewed tagging, attack and defence game plan, the team commenced strongly. So strong was the tagging that not only did Cheltenham remove a tag, but the whole belt with it! No valentines hearts for Cheltenham though as the Marlborough player, minus his tag belt, was awarded a try. Marlborough held firm but newfound confidence earned from a now solid Cheltenham defence managed to maintain an even score at half time. Playing down hill (and with the wind behind them) allowed Cheltenham to continue pressure and with a last minute break and, despite brilliant rugby by Marlborough, Cheltenham touched down, stealing a well deserved victory.

Avonvale V Cheltenham (5 – 5)
With a quick break, the still breathless squad took to the pitch again to face Avonvale. Short of players, two players from Cheltenham volunteered, making the ultimate sportsmanship gesture of playing for the other side. Unfortunately, they played brilliantly, helping fend off the exhausted Tigers, now playing uphill, with a splendid display of determination, Cheltenham still held back the downhill attack, rolling out a draw, just in time for the full time whistle. All retreated to the immaculate facilities for hot dogs, orange squash and cheers all round.

Sunday 7th February 2010
Cheltenham V Droitwich (A & B Teams)

Home
A fantastic turn out from both sides saw two full U7's teams with rolling subs played at Newlands Park on Sunday. With the 'B' team first up, playing on a half sized pitch, Droitwich won the toss and commenced with a blistering attack. Cheltenham although playing against older players, dazed by the experience, eventually began responding towards the second half as they exercised their newly learnt skills. The second half saw Cheltenham fight back. They held their ground with an onslaught by the whole team, all of them playing in defence. Droitwich responded with superior attack and evasions skills, not yet encountered by the Cheltenham youngster. Remaining defeated at the full time whistle, all players retired, only slightly phased by those artful, dodgers of Droitwich.

The 'A' teams then took up the gauntlet with them playing for the first time on a full size pitch. Cheltenham, commencing strong and demonstrating their much improved passing skills were slowly eroded by a failed tag belt, and the odd penalty. The developed Droitwich team played well in both attack & defence of which Cheltenham could not quite keep at bay. Despite a fantastic effort, Droitwich extended their lead, leaving the Cheltenham 'A' team also defeated.

Well done to all the Cheltenham players for an extremely valiant effort and well done to Droitwich.

Sunday 17th January 2010
Cheltenham v Cinderford (Friendly)
Home (1st Game 4 - 3. 2nd Game 2 - 1)
A very short notice friendly game with Cinderford produced some encouraging results for the relatively young U7's side this season.
Able to field two teams from the squad, two games were played with the tigers winning both matches.
All players have made fantastic individual and team progress in learning the game. Well done guys!
